tioman adventures

Day One, Part One

woke up irritatingly early to catch the bus to tioman.. to our delight it turns out that our "bus" only has 3 passengers.. hee, so we got like a luxury cab to fetch us all the way to mersing.. took real fast with the driver whizzing down the country lanes at whacked out speeds, bumping us all along... realised as I looked at the scenery that malaysia's landscape was pretty similar to the terrain we trained in taiwan and brunei.. there were some parts that were like.. "wow.. i attacked a similiar objective in R.O.C.." hmmm..

aniwez.. we quickly reached and were accosted by the people there whom i initially mistook their friendliness as moneyminded calculativeness.. well.. turns out the people are really pretty nice and guided us along the way.. ate some paltry brnuch at the kopitiam there where i realised little boy was gonna scrimp and save and be healthy at the same time for the whole trip.. wah.. i mean, i thought trips were meant to like relax, pig out a little and be decadent then regret when the whole thing ended.. but apparent little boy din think so.. haha.. he was doing push ups in the chalet room and basically eating very health consciously.. hmmz

then was the interminable wait for a speedboat which turned out to be a joke for the initial 15 minutes of travel cos it was chugging along so slowly that even a sampan would have bypassed us. speed.. yeah rite. but then after it passed the low tide area things became much better and we were like on a neverending portion of a rollercoaster.. but hey... quite amazing that we all managed to fall asleep still..

so the seawater changed from murky yellow to sparkling blue then crystalline green as we approached the Paya Jetty and disembarked.. first thing i realised about Tioman is that it reminded me of the island in Lost.. and it was so different from like Langkawi.. which i was sorta expecting.. cos i thought can traverse from village to village pretty easily.. but NO.. the island is inhabited only at the beachfronts and each beach is pretty much closed up where to get to another village required quite a tiring jungle trek which wasn't very fun. so yeah.. we were effectively trapped at Paya Beach. -_-

stayed at Paya Beach Resort, where the rooms were really pretty disappointing.. i mean u look at the website photo and it ain't too bad..

but then when u actually look at it.. you realise the wall is paper thin such that you here people walking around your chalet at night, then the window is sealed using TALC.. and the TV has one miserable channel and the toilet is always wet. and small. the sink is like going to collapse and i saw a cockroach on the second night. sigh.. oh well.. pay peanuts get peanuts lo

aiyah.. tired liao.. part 2 coming up another time..
